Eco Council

We are the Eco Councillors, we work hard to improve our school environment. Mrs Selby helps us to think of new ideas and projects, we share our ideas with the rest of the children in the school and aim to keep our school a Green Flag Award school. We also like to help the local community for example by organising a collection for Oldham Foodbank.

Our Achievements 2018-2019

In September 2018 we were again awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag Award for all our hard work in the 8 eco areas. These include waste, litter, transport, water, energy, bio diversity, school grounds and global perspectives. The councillors had fun taking part in the RSPB Wild challenge and achieved their bronze award. To gain this award they took part in a wide variety of challenges including building a home for hedgehogs, bird watching and taking part in a wild flower survey. We were amazed by the support for the food collection jointly organised by our School Council; Oldham Foodbank presented us with a certificate for our efforts. The councillors also took part in the annual Switch Off Fortnight and Waste Week campaigns to promote saving energy and recycling.

Our Priorities for 2019-20

This year we want build on the healthy habits that we promoted last year.

  • We plan on continuing to get the whole school involved in initatitives through our work with the WE charity. Such as WE Hunger, collecting food for the local foodbank and WE Be Outdoors, to promote the health benefits of being outdoors.
  • We plan to continue our journey with the RSPB Wild Challenge, hopefully achieveing the silver award.
  • We plan to look further at the issue of recycling, particularly the issue of plastic waste. Are we doing enough in school?
  • We will of course continue our regular litter checks and saving energy checks.
