Today, warm up by singing along to the video above.

 

We will be working on addition calculations again today. I would like you to create addition calculations with your child, using fingerprints or similar as in the image below. Moving away from counters toward pictorial representations of number is the next step in developing mathematical skill. Create two groups of prints, before encouraging your child to write the calculation below it. Encourage them to count each group and then count all to solve the calculation. 

 

Repeat this as many times as you like. Once again, be sure to use the mathematical language of addition – e.g. “seven add four equals eleven” etc.
