Remembrance Day
This week, the Dragonflies have been learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies to remember and thank the brave people who helped keep us safe.
We talked about how the poppy is a special flower that grows in the fields where soldiers once fought, and how it helps us to think about peace and kindness today.
In art, we explored the work of the famous artist Vincent van Gogh. We looked closely at his paintings and noticed his swirly brushstrokes, bright colours, and how his art shows feelings and movement.
Inspired by his style, the children created their own Van Gogh–style poppy field paintings using swirling patterns, bold red poppies, and expressive skies.
Through this, the children have been:
Learning about Remembrance Day in an age-appropriate way
Developing their artistic skills and creativity
Exploring colour mixing and different painting techniques
Talking about respect, peace, and kindness
